Hello,
Due to living in an apartment and the need to stream video across my wireless network I need to move to the 5GHz band. I bought a TP-Link TL-WDR4300 Router thinking it would be the solution, and I basically turned my current Verizon router into just a cable modem (disabled the wireless functionality and DHCP). I got everything working, but the TP-Link router is proving to be less reliable than my Verizon router, needing frequent reboots in order to keep it functioning.
My question is this: Does Verizon offer a 5GHz router to its FIOS customers? That would be an ideal solution. If not, is just a cable modem available with no router functionality?
While I'm here, the room I'm streaming the video to is the upstairs bedroom, and all of the FIOS equipment is in the closet in this bedroom (not the router itself but the other equipment). Is there a way to avoid using the wireless all together even if the apartment isn't wired with Cat5? Seems like it could be a possibility with all the equipment being so close. I can't just move the router upstairs, as the media server has to be downstairs in the living room (and its more important that it be on the wired network).
Thanks in advance!
