Existing customers that are moving, beware of activation fees:
I moved my Fios service from one apartment to a new apartment in the same building. On the day that I was supposed to have my new service connected, I was unable to because according to Verizon, the previous tenant of my new apartment failed to cancel their Verizon Service. I called my local Verizon representative to inquire about the problem. He told me that he would call me back. I called Verizon customer service. The representative told me it was a problem I had to work out with the previous tenant or ask the landlord to resolve with the local Verizon Rep. After this whole inconvenient ordeal and finally having my Fios restored, I received my first bill. Ok, no problem with that one. No activation fee and no installation fee (self installation).
And THEN...on my second and current bill I noticed increases in my billed amount. My monthly billed amount increased by $16.66 and then increased another $23.33 from my original amount.
I contacted Verizon to ask about why I was being charged an activation fee for moving and transferring my Fios service. I was given the reply that everyone is charged an activation fee. To my knowledge, that is not true. My friend lives in the same building and she was not charged an activation fee. I pointed out to the the online chat representative that on the Verizon website for the moving section FAQ, it stated that the activtion fee would be waived (http://www.verizon.com/home/shop/moving.htm#FAQs). My activation fee was waived on my previous apartment so why wasn't the same done for the new apartment which I tranferred service to. I also found a Verizon brochure explaining its activation fee stating that "The activation fee applies to new customers (http://www.verizon.com/cs/groups/public/documents/adacct/frequentlyaskedqsaboutfios.pdf)." I did not cancel my existing Fios service. I tranferred it to my new apartment so I think I would be correct to consider myself an existing customer.
Regardless of all these points I brought out to the Verizon representatives, I was given the same answer that it doe not matter what Verizon's own sources say, I will still be charged the activation fee. My persistance in having a fee that should have been waived in the first place be corrected has just lead me to run-around answers upon run-around answers.
