I replaced my Actiontec router with my own Netgear router, and after following this guide to the letter, several times, I am still having an issue getting the Actiontec to obtain an IP address from my Netgear. My setup is identical to the diagram shown in the linked article. I have tried setting a static IP, but the Actiontec refuses any subnet mask I give it, saying that it conflicts with another existing subnet mask, or that the subnet mask is out of range. I do not have extensive knowledge on IP, but from what I have found, it looks like my routers will need to have separate IP ranges to not conflict. They are both class C networks, with DHCP ranges of 192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.254. I have tried changing the DHCP range on my Actiontec, but it again will not accept my changes. If my analysis is correct, then my question is, how do I properly configure my routers to get them to play nice? Thanks!
