Changed service, battery won't stop beeping, do I need this?

I used to have a Verizon Triple-Pay package, but we have since adjusted to having only the FIOS internet (no phone or TV service). The box inside the house that plugs into the power on the wall has begun beeping, which I see is a dead battery. Apparently the battery is only used for phone service, which we no longer have- can any of that equipment be removed now that we are internet only? It's always been an eyesore because of where the technician installed it on the wall in the living room, and now it beeps and beeps...

 

I've tried holding the button in and it goes silent, but only for a day, then it starts beeping again! Please help. :smileysad:
