FiOS Internet Splitter Connection Issues

I'm having an issue with connecting to the internet via  a splitter. I've tried every possible thing I can think of to try and troubleshoot it, but it still is not working.

So here's the problem:

The set up is like this:

/ coax cable -> Verizon Actiontec router

wall -> coax cable -> splitter

\ coax cable -> STB (FiOS TV cable box)

When the set up is like this, the router is not wanting to connect to the internet. It, for some reason, is not detecting the coax cable and says there is no cable connected.

When it is connected directly to the wall via the coax cable, it works splendidly.

Troubleshooting attempts:

The obvious ones: resetting the router, calling Verizon asssistance, switching out cables to brand new ones, having Verizon reset the network.... when all of those didn't work, they sent me out a new router.

I'm on my 3rd router now.

The splitter works fine as I'm able to watch TV through it.. When connected directly to the wall, the router and internet work fine. Everything seems to be working fine on its own. It's when asked to work together through the splitter that everything decides to not work.

Any suggestions?
