Closed service ticket without ever coming to the house to check on the problem

Our FIOS (Phone/Internet) went down yesterday morning and we called Verizon to figure out how to get it back up and running.  After some diagnostics on the phone it was determined that a Verizon technician would need to come to the house and troubleshoot the problem.  We were scheduled for today from 8-12pm but no one showed up.  I called Verizon tech support to find out what happened.  Come to find out they had closed the ticket without even coming to the house.  They didn’t know why but the ticket was closed.  My wife took off today to be home for this service and now I will have to take tomorrow off for another service visit (hopefully the same thing doesn’t happen again).  The tech on the phone said after the service has been repaired I can called the billing department and have them adjust the bill so we don’t have to pay for service we didn’t get.  Now what I want to know is what about the lost pay/leave time used for the first visit that never happened.  I’m sorry only goes so far.  I don’t even know what to think I’m so mad at the moment.  Has anyone else had this happen to them and what did you do?
