"Upgrade" to service/New Verizon Router = Disconnecting from the Internet

Hello.  I have Verizon Fios service to my home.  My prior VZ service worked fine, but it was expensive.  I contacted VZ a few weeks ago to negotiate a new contract (Internet, TV, Phone - in addition to the family mobile plan).  As part of the new package, which was considerably cheaper than my prior one, Verizon offered to "upgrade" my internet service to a purportedly faster, more robust service (50/50).  They sent me a new router and ethernet cable, which was their latest/greatest, and supposedly more secure, too.  The installation was easy, and I was online again in no time.

Immediately, however, the problems with internet connectivity started.  I will be navigatng through a website, sometimes secure ones requiring passwords (e.g. to apply for a job), and I would get a sudden error message stating that I had been disconnected from the Internet.  This happens on all browsers I have used (Edge, Mozilla, Chrome).  Typically the message would disappear and I would be reconnected, but for sites requiring a login, this disconnect will log me out.  An online job application with 10 steps would normally take 20 minutes, and instead takes hours, if I can accomplish this at all.

Here are two of the messages:

Verizon error message v2.PNGVerizon error message.PNG

I looked through these forums, and tried Verizon's "speed" test.  I was disconnected twice during the process (error message like those above), but Verizon's report was that the test was a great success.  Verizon has performed those same tests from its end and confirmed that my service is excellent, in their opinion.

I tried a chat and learned how to reset my new router.  When I tried to leave feedback for Verizon about that chat, I was disconnected.  I cleared all caches, rebooted, and reset the router again.  I have rebooted my computer multiple times (because that is the first thing that every tech support person from the beginning of time requires from the outset).  I tried another chat and again the speed test came back as perfect.  The technician kept asking me the same questions over and over, then insisted I could not be transferred to a supervisor via chat (which is untrue, as I later learned).  That rep said someone would call me.  No one called.  When I called in, I ended up on hold for extended periods of time.

Eventually Verizon decided to send out a technician.  He arrived thinking I had a phone issue.  I showed him screen shots of the error messages from the various browswers (above).  After I explained the situation and steps to that point, he said would be at my home about an hour.  He was here about 2.5 hours.  He replaced the box outside and confirmed that my wiring was not an issue.  I tried navigating through a website, and I was disconnected.  He saw the error message first-hand.

He confirmed that the router I'd been sent was a refurbished one, so he replaced it and the ethernet cable.

We tried again to trigger the issue, but in two minutes or so of trying, everything seemed ok.  He left, because he didn't know what else to do, and I had other things I had to get done.  He left his phone number and said I should contact him if the problem recurred.

It did.

I texted him first, explaining who I was and asking for a call back.  He didn't.  I called him hours later, and he confirmed he'd received the text and was unapologetic about ignoring it.  He said he didn't have any other ideas for how to solve this issue for me, but that he'd brainstorm with his supervisor and call me.  He didn't.

I tried another online chat and phone calls with Verizon.  Two more hours of my life I can't get back.  They give quick answers without reading all of the steps already taken.  They have no other ideas about what to do.  So, they assume it is hardware, and since they have replaced their hardware, they are assuming it is mine.

They will agree to send another tech to my home, and they want me to agree that I will pay for the service visit if they decide it's my wiring (I didn't buy one of their outrageous "wire service plans.")  The last time, they agreed there would be no charge because all of these issues arose immediately after my "upgrade."

This time they won't agree to that arrangement, and they claim they never can agree to it (Really?  - but they did do just that last time!).

I am at the end of my rope with the call/chat center folks.  Most of the people I've dealt with at VZ over the years have been wonderful and really do seem to try to help, but this time it's been rough (an understatement).  I try to get someone else on who may have new ideas about how to fix this, but I get nowhere.  I request a supervisor and get disconnected.  I receive an offer of a call back, but no one calls at the time agreed.

There were no problems whatsoever before Verizon a) "upgraded" my service to a faster one, and b) required me to use an "upgraded" router in conjunction with this new service.   I am a savvy tech user, but not especially skilled about how the hardware/software actuall works.  As the first technician agreed, the problem is plainly on Verizon's side.

I have an HP desktop that's about 3 years old.  Operating on Windows 10.  (No apparent issues with the TV or phone.  Some initial issues with the WiFi, but no issues observed since I reset the router).

Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

i upgraded to gigabit and got the "new" quantum router. the issue is that it is a FIOS-G1100 just like the old router i have, same hardware rev as well. I did a speed test and see I am still getting 150 down but im getting 880 up (this is on the old router). Is there a firmware change that allows the gigabit down? Is that what i am renting for $10 a month? Thanks for the input.

Fios Quantum Gateway Router - LAN Connectivity Issues

Anyone notice any weird LAN connectivity issues recently?  I am not sure if there was a recent firmware update or something, but I am currently experiencing strange issue on my lan.   So I have a few devices on my network.  I have a Amazon Firestick, HDHomerun Prime, and Insteon Hub.  These specific devices I am having the most problems with.  So periodically I am unable to cast video from my phone or tablet to the Fire Stick.  Sometimes it would take several minutes for my phone to detect the Fire Stick.  But if I ping my firestick from  my phone before i try to cast, it connects isntantly.  Same thing goes with my HDHomerun Prime.  For some reason my Fire Stick and my Phone cannot find my HDHomerun Prime on the network.  Buut, if I ping the HDHomerun Prime prior to opening the HD HomeRun App, it connects fine.  A similar issue seems to be happening with my Insteon hub.  It's almost as if my devices are unable to automatically discover each other on the network, until I ping the other device first.

Is 50/50 only service in new construction developments normal?

Moving to a new home next month. Home was just finished last week and the road is so new it doesnt appear on any maps though utilities (Gas, electric, FIOS ordering) seem to recognize the address. Stil, I expect mail or deliveries to be a pain for a while. If i enter other addresses on a nearby road that does appear on the map they show gigabit support. I dont need that but I was hoping for 150/150. However, all Verizon will give me right now is 50/50. Has anyone else had this happen and did speed offerings improve as the area matured?

Battery Back-up Unit - Intermittent Beeping - Battery may need replacement

I've looked through the forums and found the solution , however I cannot open my BBU to remove the battery.  I called Verizon for help they said I needed to slide it open and then openit.  I tried to pry it open with a screwdriver and a knife.  Is there a diagram someplace where I can see how to open this thing up?  Or better yet can I just unplug it?  If the BBU is only needed to supply power to my landline in the event of a power outage its useless anyway since all of my phones are cordless.

Thanks in advance for your help

Told I Need a New ONT to Install a 3rd Additional Line

Today FIOS tech said I needed a NEW ONT to install a 3rd additional line. I would have thought this could be done outside home. My ONT is inside home. I guess Veriaon does not think people need more than 2 lines in home. What if , as in my case, I have a home based business?

Weak Wifi and problems using Apple Express to extend

Just upgraded from Actiontec to Quantum Gateway. New router is in exactly the same place as the old, however, wifi signal is weaker than previous. I had and have reconfigured a Verizon Wifi extender for the second floor - seems to be working. I was previously using an Apple Express as an extender for the TV room (opposite end of the house from router ) and it worked great connected by ethernet to the Actiontec. Now connected it to the Quantum. It seems set up according to Airport Utility but wifi signal in TV room is still very weak. Note, my TV/Cable is attached via coax to the Quantum and is working fine. Its just weak wifi issue. And Express doesnt seem to want to extend.

Verizon not honoring $150 VISA Rewards Card for Fios Internet Renewal

Do not believe the VISA Rewards Card offer for Fios Internet Renewal.  This was offered to me for renewing my Fios internet package a few months ago (I screenshotted the offer).  After clicking checkout, it was nowhere to be found on my bill.  Verizon was helpful in getting me the offer back once I produced the screenshot of the offer in my basket.  After many months, I just received a $150 Verizon Wireless Gift Card, which you can only use at verizonwireless.com, and cannot be used to pay your Verizon bill.  I finally called to quit my Fios Internet tonight after months of being given the runaround.  After being on hold for 30+ mins, the woman told me the rewards department WOULD NOT exchange it for a $150 VISA Rewards Card.  She was very nice and even offered me $30/month off my already cheap 25MBPS upload/download service (currently was $55).  I turned them down because I was so sick of the lying.  DO NOT RENEW YOUR FIOS INTERNET IF THE $150 REWARDS CARD IS A MOTIVATING FACTOR!! YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ONE!!  I have been commenting about this since the day I noticed they were not honoring the card.  My comments have been removed in the past, but hopefully they will leave this one so other people can see what is going on.  The customer service people have actually been very nice, but (I believe) the offer was set up in a way to decieve people.  Glad to be done with Verizon Fios.  End rant.

Gigabit being sold but not available

I recently opted out of tv and upgraded my 75 up/down connection to gigabit. After 3 separate attempts to schedule install, I was finally told by a supervisor that there were not enough ports available for gigabit and that I would have to wait for engineering to reach out once they're ready.

Is anybody else dealing with this? Any idea on how to know when speeds are actually available? Communication has been awful from Verizon.

Unable to get WPS to work

1st off I know the WPS button on the router does not work.

I'm trying to connect a Dell B1160w printer to a FIOS wouter. I log into the router control panel and go to Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS),  made sure that WPS was enabled, I then go to the printer and pressed the WPS button which is blinking which indicates that it is trying to connect to the network. I then go to the router admin on the web and press the WEP button.

I wait the two minutes and then I get the following.

FAILURE

WPS registration has timed out. Did not successfully add a WPS client to the network within 2 minutes.

Any suggestions?

Verizon Quantum Gateway G1100 Router Endless Rebooting

This just started the other day. I _think_ it may have been after a brief power outage, but I didn't notice until later. You can see a vid of what's happening here:

https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0i5Uzl7VXOyq8

It acts like it's just rebooting constantly. The white world light flashes for a bit, then goes red solid for a couple seconds, then white flashes, then red briefly, then it repeats. On the back, after it goes red, all of the ethernet LEDs flash, which I think means it is starting up?

It never appears on WiFi, and even plugging in, I never get an IP address.

I have tried manually resetting to factory using the button, but it seems to have no effect. I've tried plugging it in to different plugs, too, just in case it was some power oddity.

I'm guessing maybe a firmware update got interrupted maybe.

Are there any further measures to try or is this one probably just hosed?

(Note: I am a software developer and relatively competent with networking, FWIW.)

VERIZON NEEDS TO REFUND MY MONEY!!

I signed up with Verizon in November 2017, I was told that my connection fee of $99 has been waived and my set up fee was going to be $125, once off. When I provided my credit card I was charged $250. I called Verizon at the end of November and was told by an agent that I had been refunded the $125. I have not received the refund up to this day. I have called Verizon countless times and spent over 4.5 hours on the phone being passed from one person to another and long holds in between, yet no one has been able to help me. When I am being transferred the agent has audacity to ask me when I will pay the monthly bill. I have been promised to be called back a couple times but I have not been called. PLEASE VERIZON I NEED MY MONEY – CAN SOMEONE CALL ME {edited for privacy}

My home wireless intercom stopped working with FIOS

As soon as I Switched to Verizon Fios more than 5 years ago , My Home Wireless Intercoms STOPPED WORKING.

The Individual Intercoms purchased from Radio Shack worked very well , One in each room and they plugged in into the household electrical wall outlets , voice was carried via the house electrical system.

The only FIOS items Plugged in into the Household Electrical are The FIOS Panel , One Moden and One WI-FI Extender which I added 2 years ago.

Has this happened to you and how did you fixed it ?

I am curious. I have been paying for Fios for the last year. I received a letter from Verizon today that my building is going to be upgraded next week to offer Fios. What have I been paying for? There is even a number to contact so that I can get the service when it becomes available.

Would like to upgrade to 100/100 from 75/75 WITHOUT buying Quantum router

Hi, I have the old Actiontec router with 75/75 plan. Would like to upgrade to 100/100 without getting new Quantum router. I have 3 airport extremes behind the Actiontec router and don't really  need the Quantum router. The upgrade in speed to 100/100 is supposed to be $5/mo more only but can't get it without being forced to get the quantum router-- additional 10 bucks more per month.

Anybody been able to just get the upgrade in speed without the Quantum router?

old subject: WBM user change router firewall configuration

I have seen this subject in 2013 but could not find a definitive answer. I am seeing in my security log under event type "Configuration changes" on the firewall that (for example) "WBM user Unknown (0.0.0.0) has changed security settings[repeated 100 times, last time on Dec 21 20:55:22 2017] Cross referencing the time, I would see internal access from let's say my wife's iWatch IP address. I have changed password, access level to high, and other safety measures to no avail. So the question is this. What exactly is this mesage and what is causing it? Thanks

Some Devices Say "Unable To Connect" to FiOS Wi-Fi When Password is Correct

$

Hello,

So originally we had an issue where sometimes, when trying to connect to our iPhones to our FiOS router, it would say "Unable to connect" when the password was 100% accurate. 2 of us with the same phone and updates would do it, it would work for 1 person and take about 5-10 tries for the second person to get on.  It was only an iPhone issue at first, and I had read about some issues with them internally that may have been causing this.

However, today, my wife tried connecting her Lenovo work laptop to the router. It had previously been connected but somehow lost the connection. She entered the password and got the "Unable to connect" message. She verified the password was correct and tried 5 times to no avail. It finally worked the 6th time doing the same exact thing.

Is there any tech reasons this could be possible or figure out a reason for why this is happening and how to prevent it in the future?
