I finally got my gigabit service activated. My original wiring I had the ONT run to the my ASUS router via ethernet cable and then my ASUS to the G1100. This configuration I am able to get all my ASUS ports and WIFI working, but couldn't get to my any of the G1100 ports or WIFI to work. When I switch up the order using the same wires and run the ONT to the G1100 first and then from the G1100 to my ASUS router. I can get all the ports and WIFI working on both routers. Why does this order matter? I prefer to run my ASUS first as it has VPN functionality and it's where the ethernet cable from the ONT is run to. I have only internet service, nothing else.
Fior g1100 before my own router?
Wifi extender connection with coax
I just upgrade to FiOS gigabit with the G3100 router. I’m thinking of adding the E3200 extender in an area of my home where the signal is weak. Nearby is a DVR with coax that goes to the ONT. Can I split this coax and run one of the splits to an E3200 for a wired backhaul? Also, would it be better performance-wise for a wired backhaul to be via Ethernet vs coax?
New Service Internet Only - No availability until November 2020 - Alternatives ; Self Installation?
Hello,
With the current state of COVID-19, it is completely understandable the push-back on professional installations, however, is there any other alternative? I've been lucky enough to retain my employment, however, there is the need to have internet to be able to work. My Verizon is stating the earliest installation to be November 2020 ; what are the alternatives?
I've been able to confirm the new location had Optimum internet connected, so is self installation available? If so, how do I get this started?
Thank you .
No fios self install option?
Hi all,
Had a slightly frustrating chat today with a verizon rep trying to get fios turned on at my home.
back story: i have been away for work, friend was renting my house and worked from home, asked if he could get fiber run to replace cable. I said sure. He had working fios until 2-3 months ago, when he bought his own place.
I moved home last weekend, and tried to activate new fios internet service. After starting an order and running a credit check, i was told a tech would HAVE to come out to the house and none would be available until after the Covid19 issues end. To be clear, i completely understand not wanting to put techs at risk. My question:
Is there no self install option available? I have done this before with other internet providers without issue. It is not that hard to call in a MAC id or serial number. I have my friends equipment from the original install, and when powered up and connected, i have green lights on pwr, bat, data, and ntwk. Seems like it should be easier than they are making it out to be.
Any advice?
Returning FiOS Network Extender
I was renting a FNE, but don't need it anymore after setting up a router as an AP (and getting much better throughput). Can I just return the extender to the Verizon store near my house to have it taken off of my bill, or do I have to wade through the miasma of calling customer service first?
Google Nest and verizon gateway router
Hello, I hooked up my Google Nest last week and it has worked fine. I have read some previous posts about the Google WiFi mesh system and having to stop my router so that the Google WiFi becomes the router and the Gateway router is put in bridge mode.
Do I have to do the same for the Google Nest, because I just plugged in the Ethernet cable into the back of the Gateway router and everything worked.
If this is incorrect, could someone provide me with a detailed explanation on what I will need to do?
Thank you.
FIOS Intall Completely Outside?
My first ever FIOS install (internet-only) is scheduled for 13 April. When placing the order I specified that the install would need to be done completely on the exterior of the building and the Ethernet jack in the ONT should be enabled by the tech.
I will run my own Cat6 cable from the ONT to the interior of the building and configure my own router.
The person taking my order said all that is OK and I could work out the details with the tech.
Does anyone have any knowledge that would show any of this to be unrealistic or what I might expect?
What's the latest and greatest FIOS ONT that they are installing?
Hello. My ONT is probably over 10 years old now. It is a Motorola model: ONT1000GJ2.
I currently have their gig service so I am gonna assume that this ONT can provide it. My speed tests aren't that great though. Usually around 250-325 down and up. I was wondering if there is a newer ONT out there and would it benefit me by getting it?
Thanks

Gigabit internet slow wifi
I recently upgraded to the gigabit plan for home internet. Wired I get around 550 down but the wifi is much slower. I understand wifi will not be as fast but I'm testing at under 70 down right next to the router. The up speed in these same tests was above 90. In other parts of the house I am testing below 40 down. Is this normal for fios gigabit wifi? Are there ways to at least get my wifi above 100 down.
Verizon FiOS Billing Continous Billing for Services not received
Connecting Coax from ONT to my router
Disappointed, don’t purchase routers
When you need your internet the most it seems to crash over and over. Internet keeps going out, we rest Nothen on the line. So wanted to talk upgrading router since I got the quantum gateway which seems to be terrible. But I purchased it from them because it’s cheaper in the long run. It when you want to upgrade or anything they don’t have a buy back system so you’re stuck with worthless equipment since they make sure nothing is compatible suck as extenders and such. Verizon really needs to rethink customer service!
Need expert opinion on FIOS TV with G3100 setup
Here is my dilemma...
Fact 1 - I'm in an older house probably (1940-50s), electric power line wiring is old.
Fact 2 - COAX has been run around the outside of the house within the last 10-15 yrs, so it should be in very good condition.
Fact 3 - VZ ONT is in the attached garage at basement level, and I get over 400 Mbps (my internet plan) via direct ethernet connection from PC to ONT.
Fact 4 - Main TV room on the 1st Fl, another TV is in the bedroom on 2nd Fl.
Fact 5 - Office where router needs to be is on the 2nd FL. I have other equipment (NAS, Network Printer/Scanner, etc) there that I want to have wired connection to the router.
Fact 6 - Current TV service configuration for COAX cabling (ONT COAX to a COAX splitter which then feeds home-runs to each destination room)
Fact 7 - Current Internet set up ethernet from ONT to 500Mbps ethernet powerline adapter #1 in the garage - powerline adapter #2 ethernet into the G3100 router in the office. I used Actiontec PWR514K01 adapter kit and all ethernet cables are CAT5e.
Everything works, but my Internet speed is 1/10 (30-40Mbps), which I believe is due to old and poor powerline cabling. Just to make sure my Actiontec did NOT go bad on me, I switched them with TP-Link AV200 set (slower advertised throughput but newer product), the long story short - nothing changed, I still only got 30-40 Mbps. Running a homerun CAT cable is not an option.
So my best current, and probably only, option is to utilize existing COAX cabling - I can buy Actiontec MOCA Adapters for Ethernet Over Coax (like ECB6200) and use the on both ONT and router ends with a COAX cable in-between. Basically, I would be replacing my powerline adapters for COAX. I probably would need to replace the splitter to make sure it can support MOCA 2.0 and higher.
After reading the manual for G3100, I do have a question that perhaps would save me some $$ and simplify the setup. According to the documentation, COAX on G3100 can support upto MOCA 2.5. Can I make the following work?
- Connect ONT ethernet to ECB6200 and feed the COAX from it to 3 way bi-directional splitter. ONT COAX connects to splitter, while the 3 splitter connection feeds into another splitter that feeds COAX cabling around the house.
- Use existing COAX cables to feed into STBs in TV RM and BR.
- Use existing COAX in the Office to connect directly to G3100 (as WAN connection).
If this setup works, I would avoid using another MOCA adapter in the Office to switch from COAX to ethernet, which then would go into G3100 WAN port.
Please let me know if my vision is possible...Thanks in advance...
I tried to attach images showing my current setup and my idea, but they were removed for whatever reason. Anyways, below are the links to those images

Router upstairs - but need ethernet in basement
I have FIOS with wireless and LAN router installed on second floor. I am working from home and have two computers that need ethernet LAN access to run bandwidth extensive applications from office. I noticed this box (ONT?) in the basement where the main service comes into house. Can I run CAT 5 cable from the yellow LAN ports?
TIA568A or 568B?
I recently had FIOS Gigabit internet service brought into my home. I have the new Wi-Fi 6 gateway/router. I want to run a wired ethernet connection to a TV for streaming . I had technician install a male plug at one end of cable and will run to a female jack at wall plate. Can you tell me if Verizon uses the 568A or 568B configuration? I can't seem to make out which way the plug is wired.
Verizon is such an abomination
being Verizon customer for more than 10 years I have to say it's such a fraud. They try to rip you off at every turn. I recently added FiOS and set up autopay right away. But they still found a way to charge me late fee. It turned out autopay "does not kick in until 1-2 billing cycles in" whatever the hell it means. I was late on my payment all the while thinking I'm all set. They refuse to waive the fee because of course they do. So just a warning, autopay does not mean anything.
