I am planning on buying my own router but I can not find a way of knowing if the router will be compatible or not with the 200Mbps speed I have with Verizon. How do I know if the router will be compatible or not with Verizon. Thanks.

Verizon Fios DOES NOT have it's customer's backs!

I just moved to a new apartment (and am also new to New York). I know my timing is horrible, since we are dealing with COVID-19.

I moved to a building that is only wired for Verizon Fios (HUGE MISTAKE). The previous tenant in my apartment left their router and everything is hooked up. I immediately thought that this should be an easy transition considering everthing is already installed. Boy, was I wrong.

Verizon ran my credit twice and the customer service representative I have been working with has gone back and forth with telling me that there's nothing they can do, they're working on it, and I will be able to self-install soon. Literally everyday, she has a different answer.

So, I am here, alone, in my new apartment with no wifi, working off of my hotspot on my phone, and running out of data. Can anyone out there help?

Widely variable gigabit speeds

I'm seeing wildly big variations on my upload/download speeds on my 1gigabit fits connection.  all wired connections straight to the ONT.  Using Verizon's test page.

For DLs, I'm getting 600, 300, 400, 600, 400; basically just run one after the other.  I have also tried several hours apart.

This is similar situation to this thread:

https://forums.verizon.com/t5/Fios-Internet/Any-speed-impact-from-Cov-19-on-internet-spped/td-p/893661

Is this still a problem?  Should have have pretty consistent speeds?

Convert aerial drop cable to underground cable?

Our internet cables are aerial drop as per preferences of previous house owner. Is there an option to convert to underground cables? We had underground cables in our previous house and like the appearance as well as the safety of this arrangement. Please advise.

MoCa bonded 2.0 Bonded set up for internet plan only connected via ethernet

I have reviewed many topics for moca setup but have not seemed to find a solution for what I’m looking for. I am a Verizon Fios customer for Internet services only. I live in a fairly small sized apartment. My ONT is set up in my living room and was connected to the Verizon 1GB Gateway Router they provided., via Cat6 Ethernet. I was not seeing anything close to 1GB on wireless, more like 50mbps. I tried troubleshooting with a tech and that got me nowhere. I decided to purchase a third party router (netgear router nighthawk R800) I released my DHCP for my 1 gb gateway router. I have only had it on a day and have already the wireless speeds have increased.

On to my question- I’d really like to have wired connections but my TV and gaming systems are too far from the router and i don’t want long Ethernet wires everywhere. I looked into Moca adapter set ups. I should have researched a little more before purchasing, but I digress. The Moca adapters are the ActionTec Moca 2.0 coaxial to Ethernet (ECB6200K02) LAN. I followed instructions for connection but both green lights on the adapters are not lit. The coax lines are unlit. Is it possible for me to request for Verizon to enable Ethernet and coaxial at the same time so I can take advantage of the adapters and not have to return them? Maybe there is another solution, like Verizon enabling MoCa on the ONT. Any suggestions will help. I am fairly tech savvy but not an expert.

How do I request new IP address?

One particular website has banned my IP address because I was refreshing the page too much trying to buy something without using a proxy because I didn't think it was a problem.  How can I request the router change my IP address so that I can start fresh?

G3100 Router Restarting Itself

Hello! For the past few days my G3100 keeps restarting itself. With the whole coronavirus situation going on I can't get a replacement or a technician out to test the line to the house or the ONT. I managed to get a log while it was happening. When it happens my internet gets slow and then goes completely out on both wired and wireless connections.

here are some logs.

Gaps in Service. Possible job loss.

I am moving apartments in a couple of weeks and have reached out to Verizon support via phone, via email, and via chat.

All of them offer support to move my service from my current address to my new address (which I could do easily online), but the issue is none of them offer an idea of when the service at the new place could be connected.

They all said I am not eligible for self-install. I even offered to take a different package just so self-install would be an option, and still no luck.

I can't go without internet for an undetermined amount of time. My job requires me to be online, and I will be laid off if I lose internet for days or weeks at a time.

Anyone had luck getting options during COVID from Verizon? I would love them to ship me a ONT and allow self-install. Or at the worst provide a hotspot free of charge for the interim.

COVID 19 Self-Install 3mb?

$

0

So I used to have FIOS in my house about 4 months ago with 75/75 for the last 8 years. I tried to activate my FIOS again during Covid and ordered the smallest package they offer of 200/200. I was told they need a tech to install because they need to upgrade the ONT because as it cannot handle speed above 100mb, but because of covid can't come on site to do so.

So I opted to get a self install package instead, and they said they can only give me the 3mb package. Having no choice I agreed as I needed internet as my Optimum internet was down for 2 days and I need to work from home as does my wife and kids.

When they 1st activated the 3mb plan, my speed test showed 550m / 600m, but a few hours later they capped it to 3mb on the ONT. I called back to tell them my ONT supports the 200mb I ordered and to allow me self Install the 200m plan I originally ordered but they insisted they cannot do it.

You guys really need to make some exceptions during covid and allow people more than 3mb for self installs, at least make it 15 or 20, or allow me to have 200mb which is what I want. You are charging $60/m for 3mb while 200m costs $40m. It's not even about the money, its the principle of forcing people to 3mb because you want them to upgrade the ONTs, but not being able to during covid for obvious reasons.  So here I sit and as a network engineer capable of doing any install myself, waiting with a pending 200mb upgrade order until November when my ONT can be replaced, even though it can currenrky support the speed i ordered, but im forced to 3mb because of a internal Verizon procedure that does not work in the Covid world. I think an few exceptions are in order until Covid is passed us.

How to upgrade from COAX to Ethernet with Alcatel I-211M-H?

$
0
0

Hi,

I have hunkered down with my girlfriend at her parent's home to get out of the city during the global pandemic. Her parents have fios, but it's 25/25 service, which is not fast enough for the work my girlfriend and I need to do (we both are simultaneously livestreaming now for our respective jobs). We want to upgrade the service to something around 400, but Verizon said they need to send out a technician to do this. They are currently running internet over COAX, and I realize that we need to switch over to Ethernet, but frankly I do not need a technician to run ethernet through the house to the current router location, I brought an extra modem and router with me and can set it up directly at the ONT if that will work.

It seems like this is something I should be able to do myself, but I have been unable to find a manual for the ONT that they have in the home. The ONT that we have here is the Alcatel I-211M-H, does anyone have a manual for this model?

I've included pictures of the setup below. They currently have Fios for internet/TV/phone. The cable boxes are hooked up via coax as well.

Open questions that I have:

  • Are line 1 and line 2 actually doing anything? If so, what are they doing?
  • What does the DATA / MODE / LINK port do?
  • Can I plug a wifi router directly into one of these ports?

Happy to provide more photos as needed. If anyone has the same model running with high speed fios, if you could send me pictures of the inside of your box that would be amazing.

Intermittent Internet Connectivity Issues

$

I have Verizon Fios and have been having intermittent Internet connectivity problems, both wired and Wi-Fi, since the end of January 2020. The ONT was replaced in early February, because it supposedly was dropping the Internet connection every couple of seconds, and a factory reset was done on the router, but the problem started again the next day.

I received a replacement G1100 Gateway (router) in early March and everything was working fine until this past Sunday, April 12th. Prior to the router being replaced, I was having to either reboot or unplug it to regain Internet connectivity whenever I would lose it. This measure would last anywhere from 2 hours to 2 weeks. Replacing the router worked the longest, about 5 weeks, in resolving the problem. However, now the problem has returned and I’ve had to reboot the router 3 times since Sunday to regain Internet connectivity.

I did see in an old post, which is now closed, where assigning a static IP address to devices resolved an intermittent Wi-Fi connectivity problem for another person. All of my devices, except one, are assigned static IP addresses. I also saw in another post that something in Windows 10 can be an issue. I have 2 PCs and a laptop with Windows 10. But, I also have a PC with Linux Mint, a Macbook, and 2 Samsung cell phones and a tablet, several Amazon Fire tablets, and a Fire TV Cube and 2 Fire TV Sticks, which use the Android OS. So, a problem with Windows 10 shouldn’t affect loss of Internet connectivity with the other devices.

I’m not going into a lot of detail here, and provide information like how many devices I have connected to Ethernet and Wi-Fi, nor everything tech support has had me do to try and resolve the problem and everything I’ve tried, because this post is already longer than I wanted it to be.

I have been consulting a friend who is a network engineer since the problem began. He was doubtful that the ONT and router were the root causes of the problem. He suggested that I try to get a Verizon network engineer put a monitor on my fiber feed at the “neighborhood node” to check for problems. So far, everything that has been done has only been a band-aid and has not provided a permanent, long-term solution to the problem.

Ethernet setup when switching to new computer

I have a FiOS gigabit Router connected to my current computer via Ethernet cable.

However, I am getting a new computer next week and will no longer busing my current computer.

Do I need to do anything with the new computer other than connecting the Ethernet cable from the Router?  I recall when I first had FiOS installed I had to go to a website and enter the router id and password - was that a one time thing or do I need to do this on the new computer?

Thank you and I hope you are all staying safe and well.

Problem Connecting Smart TV to WiFi

The on screen TV instructions say to press and hold the WPA button on the router, but after doing that and waiting for the connection it says the connection failed! I'm frustrated. Can anyone help? My tv upstairs adapted to the new router just fine, so I don't know what the issue is!

FIOS Router and My Network

I connected my Android smartphone to wifi through my FIOS router using a wireless connection, but the smartphone is not showing up as an active and/or inactive device on "My Network."  Are some devices hidden from FIOS routers?  Could my phone be hidden from my FIOS router?  Is there a logical explanation for why I can't see this device on "My Network?"

Charging Customers More Due to Covid-19

Hi All,

Verizon agreed to reduce my rate (I was significantly being overcharged) and included a service upgrade. Due to Covid-19 they are indefinitely suspending the service upgrade. That's fine.

What's shocking is that they are not in the meantime honoring the rate reduction. They say it is contingent on the service upgrade.

Verizon is using Covid-19 as an excuse for keeping rates artificially high. I will be raising this more broadly. Wanted to post it first to this forum. I did try Verizon customer service first and even escalated it. I'll keep you all updated.

Trouble connecting WD My Book Live network drive to FIOS network

I have this My Book NAS device that used to appear on my FIOS network. My Samsung Smart TVs even found the drive on their own. But I reconfigured some things and now I can't get the drive visible again. It's currently plugged into one of the ethernet ports on a FIOS Network Extender. The green light is on, though I don't see the device listed on my 'Connected Devices' list in the FIOS mobile app.

I'd like to have the content accessible to the TVs but ultimately I want to stream it to my NVIDIA Shield which has a Plex server. Right now I can't even access the drive (ethernet only, no USB).

Any guidance is greatly appreciated. TIA.

$50 & $100 Prepaid Visa Cards

Everyone is getting their Visa Prepaid redemption emails, but no one can redeem them since there's no reward tiles to be clicked on as stated in the email. After talking to an online chat rep, we could come to no solution because they are also bewildered and cannot create a redemption link themselves. Verizon, why are you promising prepaid cards to obtain new customers except not allowing them to obtain the card(s) that were promised?
