Self-Installation from External ONT to Modem/Router Inside

$

I am contemplating upgrading from 50/50 to Gigabet internet and understand I need to switch from COAX to Ethernet. Without someone from Verizon coming to make the connection (and without an Ethernet jack), can I simply run an Ethernet cable from the outside ONT box into the house to connect to the new modem/router? Or is it more complicated? Do I need an Ethernet jack or something else? Thanks for any advice!

Trying to schedule new installation

I completed an order on 06 April to install Fios in a new house we bought, but still have not been able to get a confirmed date for the installation, or even a general timeframe for when it might happen. We are scheduled to move on 08 May, and need internet at the new house to work (teleworking due to COVID and there is no current internet wired at the house, so it is quite critical for us to work). I understand the technicians are being careful now and need to limit exposure, but I also just want to know if they will be able to do the install at some point before we move in. The house is vacant and no one is living there, so it would be safer for the techs than coming into a house that is occupied, if that helps with the prioritization?

Fios installation delay ridiculous!

Last week I saw a FIOS advertisement to upgrade my current internet to Gigabit speed. So I clicked on the ad and purchased the upgraded plan. This includes rental of a special new modem/router. So far so good...

But... the next day, I got a notification that my installation date is just 246 days away! November 30, 2020 to be exact! This is really insane and beyond words!

Yes, I understand that there is a virus going around. But when I called the FIOS help line, I assured them that I can install the new router/modem myself and they can mail me the router/modem.

They told me that the technician needs access into the basement to do the upgrade to the ONT box. The basement in my building is completely empty and nobody goes into that room where the ONT box is rarely. It only happens if someone installs a new FIOS or Optimum service, and that has not happened at all in over 4 years since I have been living here.

So if the technician could just do this, he could wear a full mask and gloves; I can have the room unlocked and give him directions on the phone on where to walk to locate the ONT box.. or I can draw him a map.. or I can take photos showing where it is.. or give him a video walkthrough..

But instead, they just freak out for no reason and now lots of customers including me are now trapped on slow internet speeds until the end of November... 8 months from now.

If they cant install an upgrade in such a safe and isolated basement, then they really need to stop all advertisements on the internet, FIOS website, social media, billboards on the highways, radio, TV, print and anywhere else UNTIL they can agree to start installing upgrades again in a reasonable amount of time, which should be around 2 to 4 business days and not 249 days.

New WiFi6 Router speed and settings

Hello all-  I received my new WiFi 6 Fios router from Verizon today and got it all set up.  I can say that connections "feel" faster with quick loads, but actual speed tests are no better than the old router.  I was specifically curious to test with my Iphone 11 which supports wifi6 and the fastest speed test I could run (I have gigabit fios) was 300 Mbps, exactly the same as the old AC router, and this was standing 1' from the new router.  During setup, I noticed the channel width is limited to 80Mhz and does not have an option for 160Mhz which based on my research is required to truely recognize increased Wifi6 speeds.  Can anyone explain 1-  why I dont see speed improvements via wifi and 2- why the channel width is the same as the previous AC router?  Thanks!

HNP home network protection not activated

Hi,

I have the new G3100 router, everything is working except for

Home Network Protection (HNP), parental controls.

I've been on the phone with Verizon, for a couple of months, it's still not working.

Basically it does not allow me to initialize the service, it says the HNP not activated and it does not allow me to turn it on.

So far they they tried.

1) reboot router

2) reset router

3) remove app

4) login and logout of app.

5) McAfee support also validated their software was working.

6) They sent me new router.

7) Connected to myfios with an unaliased user account.  (internal cryptic userid)

Basically this is the problem,  through the myfios app, I go Internet , and then Home Network Protection.

I get a red error message at the bottom, saying that "HNP is not activated on your

account".

Sometimes after a couple of tries, I get the McAfee screen, on the bottom on the screen is a status toggle that activates the HNP, but it's inactivated (greyed out) on

my apple phone.  However I tried it on an Andriod phone, it's not greyed out, but I get an error trying to turn it on.

I'm running out of ideas.

Just wondering if anybody else with a G3100 is experiencing the same issues?

Can G3100 be used to wifi extend to another G3100?

I can buy another router for cheap.

Can G3100 be used to wifi extend to another G3100? I have a 3100 and E3200 extender but was wondering if I can use a 3100 to extend.

Router Help - Mesh system?

Hi folks!

So I have the Fios triple play with gigabit connection (though I do not use the home phone). I am sing a Quantum Gateway from November 2017 when I moved in.

I switched my boxes to Fios One recently and have been experiencing some buffering on the one box that is running over Wifi, and overall slower internet speeds (laptop getting 65 download / 64 upload speeds when next to router). I do have about 22 devices hooked up to the same router between streaming devices, Alexas, video games, cell phones, laptops and smart TVs. I called VZ for support and they basically said my system is older and cannot manage that many devices, and to buy their newer router to help.

So, am looking at what my options are. My router is on my main floor, and I have issues upstairs and in basement (about 3000 sqft home).  I know I could get my own router, but feel like setting that up with having TV could be a hassle. Does anyone know if doing a mesh network would be good for this case? Would something like an eero system as a bridge work where I put one on each floor to help recast the signal or is there something else you recommend? Just trying to get better coverage and stronger wifi throughout the home where I cannot hardwire in.

THANKS!

G3100 web interface issues

Hello,

Banging my head against the wall here. Several parts of the G3100 web interface have been going haywire seemingly at random-- specifically, the following elements stop working until I reset the router, then it breaks again sometime later:
1. "Network status" page that should show all connected devices, but instead shows that there are no networks to display.
2. "Network connections" page that should show status of wifi access points and more, but instead everything incorrectly appears disconnected.
3. "IPv4 Address Distribution" page that should show DHCP leases, but shows DHCP service is disabled.

Bizarrely, the home page of the router shows that everything seems fine. WAN connection is active, devices are successfully connected through coax, wifi, and ethernet. Logs (and testing) show DHCP leases are still being given out, DNS is still resolving, etc.

Additional details:
- The G3100 is connected to the ONT through Ethernet (gigabit internet only, no TV/set top boxes).
- The G3100 is also connected to the wall with coax, which provides connectivity to two ECB5240M devices elsewhere in the house. I do believe I eliminated these extenders + the devices connected to them from being responsible as I've disconnected the coax line from the router entirely and found that the issue persisted through a router reboot.
- The G3100 firmware appears to be pretty recent, 1.3.6.27.

Has anyone else seen this issue? Any thoughts of what I could check or what it might be?

I keep losing DNS! Please help!

This problem has been driving me crazy. We've had FiOS for the past 17 months and I've had this issue that whole time. Usually once a day, but sometimes several times per day I will lose DNS. I can ping numeric IPs fine (like 128.1.1.1) but if I run tracert or ping a DNS address such as www.verizon.com it will fail saying there is no DNS. Also I can't access any websites in my browser when this happens. Sometimes restarting the router works, but usually I have to restart the router AND reboot my PC to get DNS working again. I have the same slim black router I got when we first signed up. I've changed no settings in the router, nor in Windows 10. I have an ethernet cable going from my PC's network card to the router. I should mention that I've gone as long as 1 month where DNS worked fine, but it always fails again and this past week it's failed at least 3-4 different days. I hope there is a solution to my problem

Fios Extender Goes on and Off

I purchased a Fios G3100 Router and matching Extender for upstairs.

I paired the two as per the instructions, moved the extender to the weak signal area. I presented a strong white signal indicating a connection.

Occasionally however The light on the extender flashes yellow. Then it goes back to solid white. What is wrong with this?

New G3100 Install

I bought and installed the G3100 router without a hitch. It replaced a G1100 router.  I have a couple of questions:

1.  Does this router have any enhancements for the wire LAN network.  I do get much better wireless connectivity.

2.  Why do they include a CAT5e instead of a CAT6 cable with the router?  I paid $300 for this router but don't get a CAT6 router to ONT cable.  Will a get a little better performance with a CAT6 cable going to the ONT?

3.  Are there any decent reviews of this router?  I did a Youtube search but all of the reviews are unboxing events.

Thank you

Fios connection

Hello,

I’m trying to resolve a strange problem: I’m not a tech person, but I’ll frame it as best I can...

I have Fios 400/400 using a new TPlink Archer4000 router. When I run a speed test, the speed is where it should be. But: with two iOS devices, an iPhone X and an iPad, it always takes several seconds to establish a connection to a website or another service, like WhatsApp.

Examples: when I open WhatsApp, it’ll say “connecting...” for 5 or 6 seconds before it connects. Then it works fine. Or, if I click a Google News link to an article, it takes a long time to start, then loads quickly.

It’s almost as if something is blocking the connection for a few seconds and then when it goes through everything works normally.

In all cases the problem vanishes if I turn off WiFi on my iOS devices and use LTE.

Any help would be appreciated!

Transferred services to new home - was told a tech install is required. Previous homeowner had service - do I need a tech? I’ve unplugged the ONT, but the red fail light is still flashing.

I have added an Actiontec WCB3000N network extender to Fios service. I am using Model MI424WR  Wireless router. Extender was able to access internet, but I cannot login to extender to change SSID and password. All other devices are working including TV STB on same cable circuit.
